This book is the most authoritative and comprehensive look at Astaire's dancing films.. Exhaustive in detail and extremely well written. I'd give it 5 stars but the reproduction of the photographs (particularly the black and white) are not as clean as the original edition. They have computer scanned this and it shows in places. Kudos for making eh effort to redo some of the color images though.I wish it had been released in a signature sewn hardbound edition...so that it holds up better on repeated readings.
Still...a great book and like no other!

Book is fully illustrated with photos in strips almost like flip-books to accompany descriptions of Astaire's routines. Full of surprises. I would never have thought to describe Fred dancing to Puttin' on the Ritz as angry or hostile, but it's true! Have another look.
